![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Unlike the Perpetual Testing Initiative that Valve launched for Portal 2 earlier this year, the Source Filmmaker is decidedly NOT a product that you can pick up and play with immediately. After a short closed beta the company released the package on Wednesday for anyone to download after a few hours with the tools, we’ve got some thoughts. Open this file in GCFScape and extract all the content you see to a new location. When Valve released the last of their Team Fortress 2 “Meet the…” videos last month with Meet the Pyro, they also made waves by announcing that they’d release the tools used to make the company’s machinima videos for Team Fortress 2, Portal and the various other Source engine games as a software package called the Source Filmmaker. Now visit your Dota 2 folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota) and find the “ pak01_dir.vpk” which is the parent extraction file that will rip out all the content from all archives attached to it. The VPK’s are more or less the successors to these files and can be extracted in the same way the GCF’s were done – using GCFScape.ĭownload and install GCFScape. If you’re familiar with modding other games from the company, you will be familiar with GCF files. Valve stores all of their packaged content (never code) under the VPK (Valve PAK) format. ![]() So the first step would be to extract the models / materials / animations and other raw content from inside the game that will be used in the Source Filmmaker. This procedure is exactly the same as the one I mentioned on the Cosmetics Guide and if you are already familiar with it, then you can directly skip to Step 2. This guide will contain two primary divisions – the first pertaining to importing the models and the second pertaining to importing the maps and environments. Like I did with the cosmetics guide, I will give a short description for things while I go about the tutorial so you can have a better understanding of the steps. ![]()
